Gigs In 2000

Complete Gigs: 2000-2002

The following is the complete list of Takers gigs and listed as they originally appeared on The Takers web site.

The "Notes" are as they were listed in the Show History area of The Takers web site. Both Chris Keene and myself wrote these, sometimes alone, sometimes together. It was Chris's idea to list "Money Earned" which we thought was, at the most, amusing and a rather wicked and subversive statement on just what a working band could expect to get paid at that time. Fuck, it was funny, alright?

2000:

-March 3 (?): Jacque's Cabaret, Boston, MA (date unconfirmed)
With: ???
Money Earned: 0
Notes: Billed as a Daviess County Panthers show. Tim Morse was in attendance.

Set included: Pretty Thoughts/Dirt

-April 21: O'Brien's, Allston, MA
With: Black Helicopter, Liquor Tricks
Money Earned: 0
Notes: Nick said bye-bye to his wisdom teeth that day and was henceforth unable to attend. He says the Tooth Fairy left him a special present under his pillow, but is not at liberty to divulge what it was. This was John's last show as a Taker. Chris can't remember anything about the show past the point where they played.

-September 9: O'Brien's, Allston, MA
With: La Machine, The Uniform, The Fuses
Money Earned: 50
Notes: Fun for all the right reasons. Nick's debut as a Taker.

Set included: Crash Safely/Spy On My Radar

-September 29: Middle East Upstairs, Cambridge, MA@
With: Heidi, Heavy Stud, The Decals
Money Earned: 100
Notes: Review in The Noise by Kenne Highland

-October 15: Middle East Downstairs, Cambridge, MA
With: Pere Ubu
Money Earned: 75
Notes: Review in The Boston Globe by Jim Sullivan. Dave Thomas had a ruluctance bordering on paranoia about the prospect of sharing his brandy. Nick officially contracts tinnitus, which is tantamount to a Takers secret handshake or blood oath.

Set included: The Only Reason/Midnight/One Last Chance ->/Looking Down

-October 25: "James Dean Death Car Show", WMBR-FM, Cambridge, MA*
Gene Fierro, Guest Host
Money Earned: 0
Notes: Played 2 sets. Covered The Stones' "She's So Cold".

Set 1 (Unconfirmed): "White Fuel Intro"/Twin Peaks/Rubber Bullets/The Only Reason/She's So Cold/Stars/Crash Safely

Set 2 (Unconfirmed): The Visit/Pretty Thoughts/One Last Chance ->/Looking Down/Endless Bummer (aka The Who Song)/Infinity

My eternal thanks to the Internet Archive for finding that which was previously lost.

Resuscitated from The Takers' web site (www.system360.com/takers) which was graciously maintained and paid for by Chris Keene 2000-2002.

Somebody needs to find the radioboston.com stuff from that "underground" show. Not only "Don't jump me mother" but "fingerprint file" comes up within a 20 minute span.
